  1. After Holmstrom’s non-goal, it was interesting that Eriksson’s goal wasn’t even disputed when he WAS in the crease and Osgood was down on the ice.

  2. Oh, thanks for reading my email about Lidstrom. I also find it amazing that he hasn’t won the Lady Byng trophy. Back when Pronger was winning the Hart and Norris, it was believed you had to be a physical defenseman to be elite. Pronger had 92 PIM that season. Lidstrom has just 412 in 1,252 games.

  3. Dustin: The refs in the NHL will ALWAYS find a way to give any team the advantage when playing the Red Wings. It’s human nature and happens every single year. Fortunately, the Red Wings were able to beat both the opposing team and the refs and finish the series. For all the Red Wing haters out there like Eddie, they now have an opponent in the finals that might be a significant challenge. In the end analysis, the Wings defense is much better, the offense is marginally better, the goal tending is about equal and the experience level is no contest–I’ll take three out of four to say the Wings take the Cup.

  4. Mark,

I don’t hate the Red Wings. Well, at least I don’t feel like I have an agenda against them that comes across on the show. Don’t forget I did say Lidstrom is awesome (great insight on my part), Mike Babcock is one of the best coaches in the league (another revelation) and the Red Wings are a great team (who else has said that?). That having been said….GO PENS! =)

  5. Let the games begin! I think it is a great match up, but Detroit’s 4 lines should be able to handle Pittsburg’s 1 line – at both ends of the ice. Fleury will earn his paycheck and make this a long, fun series, though… I hope. Eddie & Doug – looking forward to your Preview.

  6. Sorry Mark, but the Wings took the fewest penalty minutes per game on average this year, and actually have the third fewest in the playoffs behind San Jose and Calgary. Obviously the stats are a little skewed with teams playing a different number of games, but you can’t say that Detroit always gets the short end of the stick.

  7. Dustin: You needn’t be sorry, you’re wrong. I wouldn’t have expected you to watch the games with the frequency and detail I do, you’re simply quoting stats. What is undisputed is that when the games are on the line, and the Wings are leading in the third, some chicken-shit interference or hooking call gets made against the Wings time and again, giving the opponent an opportunity to tie or win. It’s only then that their PK gets tested and then, it’s anyone’s game. Detroit does indeed get the short end of the stick, it’s just not evident in stats.

  8. Sheesh. Now I know how Eddie and probably everyone you come in contact must feel when trying to have a discussion.

  9. Dustin: Good for you, now you can say you’ve had a shared experience with a guy doing a pod cast and a bunch of people I know and you don’t. Having either facts or substantiated opinions would be appropriate when you want to knock someone, that way, you can better control how you feel. If you don’t want to be challenged and it gets too hot for you, stay out of the kitchen Dustin. All the best.

  10. Aahhhhh, so you telling me I don’t pay attention to games in detail isn’t knocking someone without fact! I get it! It’s all so clear to me now.

  11. No, wrong again. Read carefully. I said don’t knock someone’s opinion if you don’t want to be challenged. I don’t mind you knocking me one bit, do it anytime. Your opinion is just that, yours. Just understand you will be debated from time to time when people don’t agree with you. Hope you enjoy tonight’s game.
