COLUMBUS, Ohio – Christian Backman scored at 1:33 of overtime, Dan LaCosta made 28 saves in his first NHL start and the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the San Jose Sharks 3-2 on Saturday night to end a three-game losing streak.

TORONTO – The skill of two Russian teenagers helped lead the Syracuse Crunch to a victory over the Toronto Marlies.Nikita Filatov and Maksim Mayorov each scored breakaway goals late in the first period to propel the Crunch to a 4-1 win over the Marlies in AHL action Saturday night in front of 3,233 fans at the Ricoh Coliseum.

NEWARK, N.J. – Patrick O’Sullivan scored on a penalty shot and added an assist, and Jonathan Quick made 25 saves in the Los Angeles Kings’ 3-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night.

WASHINGTON – Defenceman Mike Green broke a tie on a power play 43 seconds into the third period, then added an empty-netter, lifting the Washington Capitals past the Florida Panthers 3-1 Saturday night and giving him goals in six consecutive games.

CALGARY – Corey Perry’s late second-period goal stood up as the game winner as the Anaheim Ducks edged the Calgary Flames 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

DETROIT – The Red Wings scored three times in the first six minutes and Brian Rafalski, Maria Hossa and Pavel Datsyuk each had a goal and an assist to lift Detroit to an 8-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues goaltender Manny Legace cleared waivers on Saturday and will be sent to the team’s minor-league affiliate in Peoria.

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins aren’t skating like the team that reached the Stanley Cup final last season. Aren’t performing in net like that team.

BOSTON – Randy Jones’ shot caromed into the net off Boston defenceman Andrew Ference with two minutes left in overtime to lift the Philadelphia Flyers to a 4-3 win over the Boston Bruins on Saturday.

DETROIT – Red Wings forward Tomas Holmstrom will miss up to five weeks because of another hernia surgery, but should be healthy for the playoffs.

DALLAS – Sean Avery is one step closer to resuming his playing career.The Dallas Stars placed the winger on waivers Saturday and will be able to assign him to the American Hockey League if he goes unclaimed by noon on Monday.

MONTREAL – Toronto Maple Leafs coach Ron Wilson sees Saturday night’s game against the Montreal Canadiens as a test for rookie forward Mikhail Grabovski.

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes acquired left-winger Jussi Jokinen from the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday for Wade Brookbank, Josef Melichar and a fourth-round draft pick in 2009.
