  1. Hearing Doug talk about the three Red Wings drafted in 1989 got me thinking. How high was Lidstrom drafted?

I did some research and found that he was taken 53rd overall. 53rd!!! Somehow, there were 52 guys selected before Lidstrom, who I think should be considered one of the greatest players to play in the NHL… ever.

Here are some notables drafted before him:

    #1 Mats Sundin
    #5 Bill Guerin
    #10 Bobby Holik
    #11 Mike Sillinger
    #19 Olaf Kolzig
    #22 Adam Foote
    #35 Byron Dafoe
    #52 the aforementioned Blair Atcheynum

Except for Foote, everyone of those players is retired. But, in my opinion, Foote has fallen off his game slightly. Lidstrom is still keeping up with the fastest and most skilled players in the league. I hope lesser-hockey fans understand how unbelievable the guy truly is. As a Blues follower, I see him shut down my guys every single game.

Also, I have an idea for the show. I like the ER theme for injuries and I really enjoyed the “Welcome Back Kotter” for the players coming back. But what about the theme from “Night Court” for the fine and punishment portion? I think it would add a little more spice to the program.

Keep up the great work guys. Best podcast in the history of podcasts. Bettman doesn’t have anything on you guys.

  2. Eddie, it is pronounced I-slip. I grew up in Islip Township, which is on Long Island. As a Steeler fan, did you know that a former quarterback of one of your rivals is from East Islip? Boomer Esiason.
