Eddie, Doug:
Quick geography lesson: Columbus is a 2hr, 15min drive southwest of Cleveland. Ann Arbor is a 2.5hr drive west of Cleveland. Cleveland in the northeast corner of the state isnt in the middle of either. So both teams and their fans will be crossing the state to get to Cleveland for the outdoor game.
Why Cleveland? I haven’t read any official reason. However, the Indians have hosted a winterfest in the stadium the past few years between Thanksgiving and New Years to generate revenue during the offseason. You are very right that anything Michigan-Ohio State will sell big. Looks like the Indians think so too.
Being an hour outside Cleveland myself, I’m looking forward to going.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the information, Roger. Sounds like they picked a middle ground that would provide equal access to both teams. Too bad they aren’t having it at the Horseshoe, though, that would be quite an event.
