  1. The Stamkos spinarama penalty shot should not have counted–not because of the spin–but because the puck did not go toward the net during the move. If you watch it actually moves backwards about a foot. The Omark spinarama was fine because the puck is always travelling towards the net even in the middle of his move. I loved both moves, but its gotta be within the rules.
Love the show—keep it up–you use humor and insight in a very balanced way to discuss the hockey events of the week.

  2. Since the first podcast of this season, I have kept track of how many highlights are played in the show’s open. Not during the show, just before the intro. Here are the number of replays you guys played for each team from October-December (just the home call team counted, not the opposition):

    5 – Detroit, Tampa, Pittsburgh
    4 – Washington, Los Angeles
    3 – Philadelphia, Vancouver
2 – San Jose, Chicago, Islanders, Anaheim, St. Louis, Edmonton, Columbus, Colorado, Boston, Atlanta
1 – Minnesota, New Jersey, Ottawa, Dallas, Montreal, Phoenix, Rangers, Nashville
0 – Buffalo, Calgary, Carolina, Florida, Toronto

  3. I can name a player who left Detroit and improved quite a bit. The sample size is pretty low and this isn’t what you meant (a player who spent quite a bit of time with the Red Wings), but Ville Leino comes to mind.

  4. I just wanna say thanks on beforehand. As none of the other (~5) podcasts got updated this week (and only one other the week before), you guys put together yet another one in the middle of the x-mas holiday and all that comes with it. Honorable!

As usual, I’ll be listening to the show tomorrow at work as it really makes the start of the week a whole lot easier.. 🙂 So yeah, thanks again, Doug and Eddie! Happy new year to you both and all the awesome listeners as well! 😀

  5. Doug,

Takeaways are not an officially recognized stat by the NHL; same as hits or giveaways. You have been playing too much NHL ’11!

Many websites (including TSN I believe) show these stats. NHL.com may even use these, but its not officially recognized. What’s the difference? I have no idea. But that’s the NHL for you.

  6. Datsyuk has led the NHL in takeaways 3 of the last 4 years, if I’m not mistaken. Hence, Selke trophies.
