RALEIGH, N.C. - The Carolina Hurricanes signed newly acquired defenceman Joni Pitkanen to a US$12-million, three-year contract on Wednesday.Pitkanen, acquired from the Edmonton Oilers on Monday for winger Erik Cole, was a restricted free agent.
