If present trends hold, voting members of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association won’t be asked to compare apples and oranges at season’s end, they’ll be asked to compare apples and oranges and bananas.

Russia beats Slovakia 5-2 to win bronze at world junior tournament

OTTAWA - Not even a bronze medal could erase Russia’s thoughts of what might have been.
The Russians defeated Slovakia 5-2 to win their second consecutive bronze medal at the world junior hockey championship, but they were still thinking about their heartbreaking 6-5 shootout loss to Canada in Saturday’s semifinal.

Injuries are piling up for division-leading Philadelphia Flyers

VOORHEES, N.J. – The injury list keeps growing for the Philadelphia Flyers.Right-wing Joffrey Lupul will miss at least two weeks with a pulled abdominal muscle he sustained in Friday’s win over Anaheim, and backup goaltender Antero Niittymaki will miss at least a week with a strained a groin muscle he sustained in a 2-1 shootout loss at Los Angeles on Saturday.
