EDMONTON – Dwayne Roloson stopped 23 shots to record his first shutout of the season as the Edmonton Oilers finally put together a solid effort at home, knocking off the Vancouver Canucks 3-0 on Saturday night.

GLENDALE, Ariz. – Johan Franzen scored his second goal of the game with 19.9 seconds left to force overtime, and Henrik Zetterberg and Jiri Hudler scored in a shootout to give the Detroit Red Wings a 5-4 victory over Phoenix on Saturday night.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Dan Ellis made 27 saves for his second shutout in his last six games, and Joel Ward scored twice in the Nashville Predators’ 3-0 victory over the Dallas Stars on Saturday night.

OTTAWA – Martin Gerber stopped 24 shots to register his first shutout of the season on Saturday as the Ottawa Senators beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-0.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Rookie Steve Mason made 24 saves to lead the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 3-1 victory over the New York Islanders, their sixth loss in a row.

NEW YORK – Henrik Lundqvist stopped all five shots in the shootout and Chris Drury scored the only goal in the tiebreaker to lift the New York Rangers to a 3-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night.

MONTREAL – Michael Nylander scored the winner with 2:32 to play in regulation and Simeon Varlamov made 32 saves to win his NHL debut as the streaking Washington Capitals downed the Montreal Canadiens 2-1 on Saturday night.

BOSTON – Phil Kessel had a goal and an assist to extend his points streak to 15 games – the best in the NHL this season – and Michael Ryder scored two goals Saturday night to lead the Boston Bruins to a 4-2 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers.

OTTAWA – Tampa Bay Lightning forward Martin St. Louis left Saturday’s game against the Ottawa Senators after being accidentally cut in the face by a linesman’s skate.

NEWARK, N.J. – Thomas Vanek scored his NHL-leading 23rd and 24th goal to help the Buffalo Sabres beat the New Jersey Devils 4-2 on Saturday night.

NEW YORK – Phoenix Coyotes tough guy Brian McGrattan has voluntarily entered the substance abuse program administered jointly by the NHL and the players’ association, the league and union announced Saturday.

PHILADELPHIA – Mike Knuble and the Philadelphia Flyers are enjoying playing hockey again.Knuble scored twice and the Flyers won their fourth straight game with a 6-3 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.

CALGARY – Stephen Weiss scored the game winner in a shootout to lead the Florida Panthers to a 3-2 win over the Calgary Flames on Friday night.

DENVER – Dustin Byfuglien assured a happy homecoming for coach Joel Quenneville when his second goal gave the Chicago Blackhawks a 4-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Friday night.

DALLAS – Marty Turco made 37 saves, rookies Tom Wandell and Fabian Brunnstrom scored goals and the Dallas Stars beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-1 on Friday night in their first meeting since last season’s Western Conference finals.

ATLANTA – Phil Kessel had a goal and two assists to extend his NHL-best points streak to 14 games, and the Boston Bruins scored four times on their first five shots in a 7-3 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers on Friday night.

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Ian White broke a tie with 7:56 left in the third period, and Vesa Toskala made 24 saves in the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 2-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night.
