  1. The KHL trophy is in fact the Gagarin Cup, named after Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space.

  2. In regards to Doug’s comments on Atlanta bringing in black players-

Back around 2002-03, the St. Louis Blues, my favorite team, brought Fred Brathwaite in to man the pipes. The team already had winger Jamal Mayers throwin hits and taking bad shots. I went to a home game about mid-season when much to my surprise, a black family of a mom dad and two kids sat next to me. They asked me many questions before the game started, and really got into it about the second period. They went crazy every time Brathwaite made a save and the guy told me that he was his favorite player. I asked him why they decided to give hockey a chance and he said, “Because I heard we had some brothers out here skatin with all these toothless Canadians.” I laughed uncontrollably.

So yes Doug, I too completely understand why the Thrashers are doing this. They have truly found a way to relate to the fans of their area.

  3. I totally agree with Tim on the GAA/S% as goalie measurements. I’ve been thinking the same thing. GAA = more of a team number and S% more defines the skill of the goalie. Of course the shot quality should be taken into account as well (but that should even out over time).

However I recall hearing that different arenas count different shots as actual shots. Some only count actual hits to the goalies/posts as shots while some even count near misses as shots. So it will never be totally accurate, but still.. Now I’ve almost forgotten what I was talking about so I’ll just stop ri……. 😀

PS. Man I’m curious as to what is going to happen to Draper and Maltby..
