PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins have hired Tony Granato as an assistant coach.The 45-year-old spent the last six seasons as an assistant and head coach of the Avalanche but was fired in June after Colorado finished with a franchise-worst record since moving to Denver in 1995

Defenseman Teppo Numminen retires after 20 NHL seasons

After 20 NHL seasons and 1,372 games, Teppo Numminen has decided to call it a career.

Drafted in the second round (29th overall) in the 1986 draft by the Winnipeg Jets, Numminen carved out a career defined by his durable and consistent play to go along with his leadership skills that made him captain in Dallas and Buffalo
