St. Louis scores twice to lead Lightning past Thrashers 4-1

ATLANTA – The Tampa Bay Lightning are no longer a last-place team or winless in Atlanta for nearly two years.Martin St. Louis scored twice, and Mike Smith made 27 saves to help the Lightning move out of the Southeast Division basement with a 4-1 victory over the Thrashers on Sunday night.

Canada pulls out world juniors win despite vaunted power play turning cold

OTTAWA – Team Canada’s vaunted power play turned luke warm, but they still found a way to win.
The hard-working Russians held Canada to 1-for-9 with the man advantage and nearly caused an upset at the world junior hockey championship until Canada’s Jordan Eberle scored his second goal of the game with less than six seconds to play and then scored again in the shootout for a 6-5 win in the semifinals on Saturday night.

Ottawa Senators look to turn losing ways around on the road

TORONTO – The struggles continue for the Ottawa Senators.A 3-1 loss to provincial rival Toronto on Saturday night – in which the Senators had several scoring opportunities, but were repeatedly denied by Maple Leafs goaltender Vesa Toskala – dropped Ottawa to 13-18-5 on the season.
